Aim of the project: It is the objective of the first phase of this project to demonstrate, that TransBase/ UB, a DBMS with a novel multidimensional index technique, is the enabling technology for new, challenging applications in the following areas with already large and rapidly growing markets.

Exploitable results: By integrating UB-Trees into TransBase the new technology will be made available to existing SQL applications without requiring extensive modifications of the queries. Furthermore, the implementation within the TransBase kernel can make the implementation more efficient.

Application and assessment of results: After the project, the technology integrated in TransBase/ UB is ready for application in various application areas, e.g. the following:

• Datawarehousing and datamining applications
• Geographic and spatial/ temporal databases
• Statistical databases
